As our Sr. Payroll Specialist, you’ll partner with our Corporate Payroll Manager and Payroll Specialists to process biweekly payroll for the United States and Canada following established practices and guidelines. This will entail ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws.

Do you enjoy this work?

  • Accurately process all aspects of biweekly, multi-state, and Canadian payroll with the Payroll Specialist, which includes transferring data between timekeeping and payroll systems, and completing a payroll checklist
  • Verify reconciliation and precheck audit reports to ensure accuracy of data entry and records
  • Interface with Human Resources in resolving pay-related issues affecting employees
  • Deliver high-quality customer service to the field by investigating and responding to inquiries about payments, withholdings, or discrepancies in pay
  • Communicate with Manager about any payroll/tax irregularities and steps for resolution, if applicable
  • Communicate with departments to support timely submission, corrections, and problem resolution of all payroll related issues
  • Update employee pay-related changes including loan payments, 401K deferrals, and other relevant data
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert in our payroll and timekeeping systems
  • Participate in testing changes in payroll-related software, ensuring all changes occur without interruption or error in payments 
  • Receive necessary approvals for payroll related tasks such as payments and reimbursements; document and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Interface with Accounting/Treasury on GL issues and other accounting-based inquiries
  • Help in the set-up and registration of new tax codes; ensure all data is up-to-date in UKG
  • Assist and take part in year-end audit of all 401K and RRSP plans – internal audits from providers and external audits from firms hired by the company
  • Preparation of month end, quarter end, and year-end filings for Canadian workers comp providers.
  • Administer all aspects of withholdings and distributions for our charitable giving programs
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within payroll and timekeeping processes

  • Associate degree or higher preferred
  • 5+ years payroll specific experience; CPP or FPP preferred
  • Broad knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll, time reporting, processes, regulations, and policies
  • Excellent working knowledge of Federal/State tax filing regulations and related legislation
  • Strong customer service disposition and sense of professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, analyze, and interpret data
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Thrive in a team/collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize projects in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented business environment
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Payroll experience supporting multi-location organizations across North America preferred
  • Experience with Ultimate/UKG software preferred
