 JOB DESCRIPTION

Fogg Filler is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for our Process team. This position requires basic and advanced knowledge of liquid food processing standards for clean in place (CIP) and Sterilization in place (SIP).  This individual must understand P&ID drawings, flows, some working knowledge of SolidWorks, sizing pumps, valves and other flow instrument equipment.  Chemical blending and temperature management of equipment for validations and certificate requirements.  Able to write standard processes and procedures for both internal and external clients.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs in depth investigation into materials, processes and products, as assigned by management.
  • Utilizes sound engineering principles to design new products or modify existing ones from information provided by: customer request/feedback, sales/sales engineers, manufacturing personnel or Fogg service team.
  • Works with manufacturing to determine the best design to minimize labor and overhead costs.
  • Works with other engineering designers to review form, fit and function of product designs by utilizing SolidWorks.
  • Participates in the quoting process with sales. This will be coordinated with the Fogg sales team member and may require a site visit to the customer's facility.
  • Requests prototypes from outside suppliers, or manufacturing, to be used for engineering performance, concept evaluation and reliability testing.
  • Assembles prototype product using power and hand tools. Lifts/moves parts weighing up to 40 pounds during engineering evaluations to determine form, fit and function.
  • Initiates and coordinates development programs which will increase cost efficiency resulting in smoother workflow for manufacturing. Including testing and analysis of materials, processes and prototypes.
  • Analyzes competitive products by evaluating materials, manufacturing processes, product performance and packaging.
  • Contacts and when necessary, visits customers, suppliers, and agencies to obtain information relative to existing products, purchased parts, material selections, or manufacturing processes.
  • May be asked to travel and provide engineering field support for customer base and/or our dealer/agents, maintaining optimum quality customer service, as required.
  • Support Fogg customers and Sales Department on project control specifications. Answer engineering customer service telephone calls.
  • Develop and document detailed checklists for conducting Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) on all process related equipment.
  • Responsible for the initial layout concept and component specification of process and CIP skids. Provide assistance to other engineers with regards to layout of piping systems
  • Create and maintain fluid component library for all pumps, valves, sensors, and other related equipment.
  • Work with the Controls Department to develop common control sequences and methodologies for Fogg Equipment.
  • Work with the Technical Writers to develop standard documentation for process and CIP skids and other Fogg Equipment as requested.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering discipline or equivalent, preferred.
  • 5 years engineering experience required, packaging industry preferred.
  • Experience may include process design, chemical, controls or field maintenance.
  • Valid Passport- preferred.
  • A solid background in fluid dynamics, flows, pumps, valves.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have PC/Computer skills, which include knowledge of word processing, data analysis and spreadsheet applications.
  • Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment.
