JOB DESCRIPTION:

Fogg Filler is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineering Manager  to manage Mechanical Design Engineers who produce individual designs and documents new products and product line enhancements and material. Works with manufacturing to determine the best manufacturing process for existing and new products.  Works with quality personnel to ensure that all quality aspects of product design and manufacturing are met by applying engineering principals under minimal supervision.

  • Manage and direct a specific team of mechanical design engineers in all aspects of producing designs for new and existing products.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for team members and administers the salary policies as established by management. Develop team members through the regular performance appraisal process by identifying performance, education, training requirements and opportunities ensuring that team members continue to grow.
  • Conduct daily team meetings to review projects with design engineer team to ascertain that the appropriate activities are being executed and proper coordination of interdepartmental communication is occurring regarding all maintenance activities on existing product lines, new design on product enhancements as well as any R& D projects. Including frequent contact with Manufacturing, Service, Parts and R& D departments to ensure that products meet all Engineering specifications set forth by Engineering documentation and agency standards.
  • Report weekly to management on product design, development and research process. Update management on completion of projects, projects to schedule, along with product or process performance.
  • Establish group objectives in support of Fogg objectives and company development strategies, and work to achieve these objectives. Assigns projects to team members.
  • Supports all department operating procedures, systems and standard operating procedures and train new employees in their use.
  • Supports quality goals and assures product compliance through communication and objective setting within the engineering group.
  • Serve as a technical leader in the review of group product engineering activities.
  • Establish and utilize within the assigned engineering team sound engineering principles to design new products or modify existing ones from information provided by: customer request/feedback, sales/sales engineers, manufacturing personnel, service and parts personnel.
  • Work with manufacturing to determine the best design to minimize labor and overhead costs.
  • Work with other design engineering teams to review form, fit and function of product designs by utilizing SolidWorks.
  • Ensure that engineering team develops engineering detail and assembly documentation to support tooling quotations, manufacturing and manufacturing preparation.
  • Ensure that engineering team requests prototypes from outside suppliers, or manufacturing, to be used for engineering performance, concept evaluation and reliability testing.
  • Assembles prototype product using power and hand tools. Lifts/moves parts weighing up to 40 pounds during engineering evaluations to determine form, fit and function.
  • Initiates and coordinates development programs which will increase cost efficiency resulting in smoother workflow for manufacturing. Including testing and analysis of materials, processes and prototypes.
  • Analyzes competitive products by evaluating materials, manufacturing processes, product performance and packaging.
  • Contacts and when necessary visits customers, suppliers, and agencies to obtain information relative to existing products, purchased parts, material selections, or manufacturing processes.
  • May be asked to travel and provide engineering field support for customer base and/or our dealer/agents, maintaining optimum quality customer service, as required.
  • Support Fogg customers and Sales Department on project control specifications. Answer engineering customer service telephone calls.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering discipline or equivalent, preferred
  • Prefer a minimum of 5 years of engineering product line responsibilities, a minimum of 5 years of project engineering experience and some supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and CAD
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have PC/Computer skills, which include knowledge of word processing, data analysis and spreadsheet applications.
  • Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment.
