JOB DESCRIPTION:

Roberts is seeking an experienced Extrusion Set-Up Technician to set-up and run sheet extrusion equipment.  The position reports to the Production Manager.   The responsibilities include leading a team of operators to produce, inspect and plastic fixtures to specifications, accurately documenting scrap and downtime.

  • Responsible for performing all aspects of the job in a safe manner and observing all safety regulations. Conduct periodic safety checks and involves the team in identifying and resolving unsafe conditions.
  • Responsible for cleanliness and housekeeping of the production machinery and surrounding area in accordance with 5S standards. Ensure a clean and safe workplace.
  • Responsible for timely startups and shutdowns to maximize productivity and reduce unnecessary downtime.
  • Instruct and train team members to become qualified set up technicians.
  • Assign projects pertaining to process, changeover and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Comply with and create standard operating procedures.
  •  Troubleshoot and make minor adjustments to extrusion line.
  •  Monitor and inspect quality of finished goods, which includes the ability to detect and diagnose surface defects of product, die lines, blemishes, color variations, etc.
  •  Change dies on extruding machines according to production line change.
  •  Set up and operate extruding machines to extrude plastic compound through a nozzle or die
  • Set up punching dies and extrusion dies.
  • Troubleshoot engineering thermoplastic materials.
  • Perform basic machine maintenance and finishing operations at the press.
  • Ability to communicate information to the operators.
  • Utilize information from the process sheets.

Available shifts:

Night shift 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. 12 hours shifts with a rotation schedule and alternating weekends.  

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School/GED, technical certification preferred
  • Two or more years of experience in a plastics extrusion environment.
  • Overall knowledge of tools, instruments, standard test equipment and plant processes.
  • Excellent communication with strong leadership skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels.
  • Self-motivated and energetic with a personable demeanor.
  • Flexible and dedicated to doing what it takes to get the job done.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds to move shipments to hand truck
  • Ability to partner with employees and work as a team
  • Valid training certificate to operate fork truck preferred, training is provided
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to sample new tools and communicate with Engineering, Tooling, and Quality personnel to assure objectives are achieved.
  • Available to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to document all processes related to the molding of a part that is repeatable and understandable
