What is the Director of Supply Chain and Planning?
The Director of Supply Chain and Planning is a leadership position at Clark-Reliance, reporting directly to the VP of Operations. This critical role will help drive alignment and synchronicity within our Sales, Supply Chain and Operations functions to continually deliver solid financial results and meet/exceed our customer service levels.

This individual must be extremely intelligent, personable, dynamic, and innovative, with exceptional strategic and analytical skills; additionally, this individual must be an energetic, day-to-day “roll-your-sleeves-up” team player.
Duties and Responsibilities
Help drive alignment and synchronicity within our Sales, Supply Chain and Operations functions to continually deliver solid financial results and meet/exceed our customer service levels.
This role also includes strategic and tactical decision-making in areas including, but not limited to, balancing demand and supply; aligning volume and mix with our capacity/capability; and integrating financial and operating plans with strategic objectives to deliver improved operating and financial results.
The candidate will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining good relationships with strategic supply partners and vendors, along with helping drive alignment and synchronicity within our Sales, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Customer Service functions.
An important aspect of this position will be instituting a more formal and structured approach to our sales & operations planning (“S&OP”) process, which includes but is not limited to, managing regular & timely communication across the organization and facilitating S&OP meetings at pre-set frequency and regularity.
Key Responsibilities for Supply Chain
- Build strategic relationships with domestic suppliers, off-shore suppliers, transportation companies, and logistics service providers.
- Develop and Manage Supplier Performance On-Time and Quality Metrics. Identify programs to improve overall supply chain performance.
- Maintain company perspective on key commodity trends, and provide insight to executive team for long term profitability forecasting purposes.
- Monitor and manage costs to ensure adherence to budgets, forecasts and profitability goals.
- Serve as the primary focal point for key price, delivery, and technical negotiations with Supply Chain partners. Lead buying team to develop tactical cost containment strategies as necessary.
- Work collaboratively with internal team members on sourcing strategy, market analysis, make vs. buy opportunities, and supplier roadmaps to support cost, quality, and delivery targets. Build and maintain an active register of cost savings projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop long range plans for vendor consolidation while appropriately managing business risk from supply chain interruptions.
- Identify SKU Rationalization opportunities to simplify material stocking plans and material flow on the manufacturing floor.
- Issue purchase orders, ensure timely delivery of purchase orders, and resolve invoice issues when necessary
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures and government regulations.
Key Responsibilities for Planning:
- Building and leading the S&OP process to foster good decision making in our supply chain (e.g., meeting and exceeding our sales forecasts while maintaining high levels of customer service and ensuring appropriate inventory levels at optimized manufacturing cost).
- Collaborating with Sales to establish effective methods of demand forecasting.
- Facilitating all S&OP meetings, documenting action items and establishing processes to ensure timely execution (and accountability) of our follow-up items.
- Consolidating and submitting demand forecasts by SKU to the entire Supply Chain team.
- Reviewing inventory levels and ensuring periodic inventory optimization based on business forecast and goals (including reducing any slow moving & obsolete inventory).
- Reviewing capacity utilization, manpower, material availability (WIP, Raw Material, Packaging) plans submitted by each plant in order to challenge assumptions and bridge any gaps between consensus demand and product availability.
- Establishing and implementing planning processes needed to bridge the gap between forecasting and finite scheduling.
- Managing inventory planning, including direct supervision of Company’s scheduling and materials management team members.
- Developing key performance indicators (KPIs) and business dashboards with On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) delivery performance as a primary metric.
- Monitoring KPIs and dashboards to provide comprehensive reports, analytics and visibility around product supply status to all key stakeholders.
- Preparing and conducting executive-level presentations including demand analysis, capacity utilization and cost scenarios to facilitate thoughtful management discussion and drive effective decision making.
- Driving education and training of our S&OP process.

Required Experience and Education
- A minimum of ten years of experience (with a history of assuming greater professional responsibility) in demand planning and supply chain related functions, and most recently in a multi-site manufacturing environment.
- Accredited, Bachelor’s Degree Required.
- Preferably in either Finance, Business Administration, Logistics, Operations Management and/or Engineering-related fields is preferred.
- MBA is a plus.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute business objectives across multiple functions.
- Strong foundation in team-oriented planning processes; and experienced in demand forecasting, sales analysis, inventory management, master and finite scheduling, and strategic planning.
- Hands-on, “in the trenches” style with a strong work ethic, high level of energy and enthusiasm, with the ability to be involved in many aspects of a growing company.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, work collaboratively and positively influence at all levels including executives, functional managers, front line supervisors, and technical experts.
- Capability to influence and achieve alignment with supply chain, sales, and manufacturing peers is essential.
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives and work in a matrix reporting environment where priorities change rapidly and tight deadlines exist.
- Superior project management leadership experience (i.e., ensuring execution/completion of projects, key milestones, identification of opportunities and risks, and monitoring financial/non-financial metrics).
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills -- ability to synthesize, analyze and present data, including solid skills in recognizing and evaluating areas for change.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ideal candidate will possess the ability to present his/her ideas in a clear, concise and compelling fashion to functional leaders, executive management and board members.
- Demonstrated ability to structure and conduct analyses to generate insight and recommendations; and someone who has a keen eye for details.
- Demonstrated ability to manage data systems for business analysis and reporting.
- Experienced leader of others capable of defining organization roles and development of subordinates.
Physical and Technical Environment
- Minimal lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally using proper lifting techniques or other available resources such as lifting or moving equipment or help from another employee. • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop in a normal office environment. • Ability to routinely travel throughout multi-floor office and shop area, walking, climbing stairs, utilizing elevator. • Clean and orderly manufacturing environment, some exposure to safety hazards.
