Overview

Tribune Publishing is a leader in local news in the US, is looking for an experienced leader in digital news subscriptions operations to help sustain and grow subscriber revenues via a comprehensive engagement and retention strategy. The director of subscriber engagement and retention will focus on increasing average subscriber lifetime value (LTV) and annual revenue per user (ARPU), reducing churn, and increasing subscriber product usage and perceived product value. They will coordinate marketing efforts via direct reports and adjacent teams, establish key performance indicators (KPIs), and engage with product development and local news leadership to advocate for strategies to improve subscriber retention and engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Orchestrate and continually optimize touchpoints throughout the subscriber lifecycle.

  • Identify user experience enhancements via VoC, competitor research and analytics, to improve perceived value of experience and engagement.

  • Identify newsroom level tactics to drive subscriber engagement and retention and work via audience team and local leads to advocate, train and measure.

  • Evaluate and continually optimize billing processes and technologies to maximize revenue capture rates.

  • Work with call center teams to standardize best practices and incorporate call center interactions into holistic view on subscriber health.

  • Engage with industry peers through events and direct networking to stay abreast of new strategies, tactics and best practices, as well as regularly benchmark performance

  • Manage and develop strong, collaborative relationships with Business Partners across the organization to ensure strategic initiatives meet business goals

  • Develop clear and informative reporting; strategically communicate results and recommendations to leadership

  • Provide support to adjacent departments on critical initiatives and assist in go-to-market planning and execution

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of proven experience in a marketing, newsroom operations or digital strategy role

  • 3+ years in a marketing leadership role with direct reports

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred

  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills, ability to clearly and consistently work side-by-side across functions and departments synthesizing multiple points of view into a coherent action plan with senior leaders

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with a demonstrated ability to interpret and use data to drive decision making

  • An understanding of how media is consumed in today’s world and how we can create added value to drive engagement with our products

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to tailor presentations based on audience

  • An entrepreneurial mind-set, flexible teammate with a get stuff done attitude and the ability to roll up your sleeves and tackle whatever comes your way
