Ossid is searching for top candidates for our Controls Engineer position located in Rocky Mount, NC. This opportunity is a highly visible position and is an exciting chance to demonstrate hands-on and inventive engineering capabilities within a multi-discipline engineering team. Ossid supports a complete manufacturing facility including multiple CNC machining centers, computer controlled sheet metal fabrication, and advanced welding stations giving engineering the ability to be involved in every step of the manufacturing process.   The position reports to the Controls Engineering Manager.

 Job Description:

 The primary focus of this position is to design, program, troubleshoot, implement and test the electrical control systems for automated packaging machinery.  

This includes but is not limited to:

 PLC Programming

  • PLC Programming
  • PC Programming (VB, LabView, SQL Server)
  • HMI Programming
  • Motion Control including Stepper and Servo control (A Must)
  • Motor control with VFDs
  • Electrical Schematic Design (AutoCad Electrical)
  • Panel Layout and Design
  • Creation of Bills of Material
  • Fieldbus Communications
  • Creation of documentation and training materials
  • Vision System Development

 The position will also require travel (up to 25%) to customer locations to oversee installation, provide service, and commissioning of the machines as well as provide in-house and on-site technical training for other employees and customers.

Education Requirements:  Bachelor of Science degree, Technical School degree, or equivalent proven work experience in control software design and implementation.  Packaging machinery control software design experience is a plus.

Required Skills:  The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Minimum 10 years of automation controls and programming experience
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or AutoCAD electrical design software
  • PLC programming experience preferably Rockwell, Siemens and Omron.
  • Working knowledge of machine control & data acquisition systems including I/O hardware, signal conditioning, field devices & sensors
  • Ability to work on a cross-functional team including sales, marketing, engineering, and field services
  • Knowledge of PC object oriented programming software and architecture.
  • Position requires ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form
  • Project management experience is preferred
