The Loveland Reporter-Herald newspaper, in Larimer County, Colo., is looking for an experienced journalist to serve as city government reporter, covering Loveland City Council and politics, area town boards as needed, and general assignment and breaking news, for the web and print editions. This position is primarily weekdays, except for nights as required to cover meetings, and some weekends and holidays.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned journalist with two to three years of experience as a reporter, who looks out for readers by telling them what they need to know about council decisions and the workings of city government, can make the complex understandable, and can steadfastly report the facts in the middle of political turbulence.
Qualifications
Degree in journalism, communication or equivalent experience
Two to three years of experience as a reporter at a daily newspaper or online news outlet
Relevant experience in news reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content
A writing voice that speaks to the audience
Ability to work well under deadline pressure
Understanding of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
Willingness and ability to contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
Additional information
Must be flexible to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as well as odd hours if necessary/news requires
Must live in area or be willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)
The hourly wage is $16.00 - 18.50.
