Summary/Objective
The Corporate Senior Accountant position will be responsible for reviewing and preparing financial reporting for our corporate holding company, forecasting and budgeting for the holding company, working with our media publications, preparing audit schedules, capital expenditure reporting, consolidated reporting and special projects. Associated with this is monthly review of financials compared to budget, financial statement analysis and reporting, allocation of expenses, monitoring and providing guidance for corporate polices and annual budget preparations and reporting. A strong understanding of GAAP is required and excellent communication skills are necessary to work with executive team, shared service center and media property controllers. Also assists in various corporate accounting projects.
Essential Functions
Monthly holding company close, including working with the holding company departments to review their expense accruals, and reporting of holding company performance with variance explanations.
Maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded.
Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
Analyzes current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
Requires a bachelor's degree.
Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.
Allocation to the media properties of certain expenses
Preparation of consolidation schedules
Weekly flash (monthly forecast) for holding company and periodic updating of the forecast for the fiscal year.
Prepare annual budgets
Capital expenditure tracking, forecasting, budgeting and review for compliance with corporate policy. Monthly and annual processing
Ad-Hoc projects
Works under minimal supervision and has the ability to lead projects and prioritize work-load throughout the month.
Competencies & Skills
CPA preferred or working toward certification
Multi-location environments and intercompany accounting
Strong analytical, judgment and decision making skills with the ability to adapt to change.
Strong Excel skills required (Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, index match, etc.)
Experience with a large ERP system, preferably Oracle ERP or similar system
Experience in planning and forecasting software (Oracle EPM/Smartview or similar system)
Experience in close, creating journal entries and working with general ledger software
Experience in complex account reconciliations
Ability to research and resolve issues and to present financial information in a logical manner
Strong communications skills to work with executive team and media locations
Able to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure, dynamic environment, with tight deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and interrelation skills with an ability to establish build and maintain relationships with a variety of people across divisions.
Outstanding communication skills, both written and spoken.
Critical and analytical decision-making skills used frequently
Expected to take initiative to refine procedures and notify management of potential issues.

Work Environment
This job allows for remote work ability, but also may operate in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
The annual salary range is $70,000-$80,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, and a 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
